OZ Optics Limited, a world leading supplier of fiber optic products for existing and next-generation optical networks, has released its OPM-1000 line of digital optical power monitors. These devices combine our patented optical tap technology with our optical power meter circuitry to give you an instrument that allows you to conveniently monitor optical power through a fiber optic system while the system is operating. A small signal is diverted to a detector while the main signal continues through the device. The user merely has to connect the monitor at some point in the system where two fibers are normally mated, and the display will show the transmitted power in dBm when activated. The device is calibrated for one or more wavelengths, allowing you to constantly measure the transmitted power with minimal insertion losses, low polarization dependent losses and polarization dependent response, and exceptionally low return losses. The unit is powered by a single battery and can be communicated with via a USB connector allowing data logging if desired.

The new polarizers are only three millimeters in diameter and twenty millimeters long, taking only one-eighth the volume of conventional fiber polarizers.
